The Administrator of Children's Physician Services of South Texas (CPSST) reports directly to the organization's board of directors and the Chief Executive Officer of Driscoll Children's Hospital (DCH) and is also an integral member of the senior management team at Driscoll. The position is responsible for implementing board policies and actions and providing overall strategic and operational direction for CPSST. The Administrator will lead and empower a small management team responsible for day-to-day operations of the various clinics owned by CPSST.
The current direct reports to the Administrator are as follows: Office Manager, Children's Surgical Services, Office Manager, Radiology, and Director, Finance. The majority of CPSST's clinical staff are managed by an Assistant Vice President, Clinical Services at DCH. Hospital leadership is considering a restructuring which, if enacted, would have this Assistant Vice President report directly to the CPSST Administrator. Driscoll Children's Hospital is a 200-bed full service tertiary teaching hospital serving the pediatric and adolescent community of Corpus Christi and a 33-county area of 31,000 square miles of South Texas.
Forty percent of the hospital's patient volume is derived from the service area outside of Corpus Christi. Children's Physician Services of South Texas was founded by the hospital in the early 1990's for the faculty for the hospital's residency program. In 1995, the 501a was formed with the first full-time administrator recruited in 2000. The 501a is governed by a 7-person board composed of six physicians and the CEO of Driscoll Children's Hospital. The 501a has 20 sub-specialty physicians and 4 primary care pediatricians in five clinic sites with two additional sites with ambulatory surgery capacity under development. Negotiations are currently underway to purchase a cardiology practice adding twenty-eight additional sites. Eleven sub-specialists were added in 2000 and the 501a expects to add nineteen physicians during 2003.
